ABOUT ME

My name is Cami Schwartz. I am a sophomore at Grand View University in Des Moines, IA. I am majoring in elementary education and hope to teach 2nd or 3rd grade. I'm originally from Omaha, NE.

Why did I create this website?

This website is to inform about the challenges and benefits of using technology with English Language learners and the difficulties those students may face in school, especially regarding technology. It is a project assigned to me as I work on becoming an effective teacher.

This site was designed with teachers in mind. It is a tool for teachers to gain more knowledge about ELL students and technology. Through reading, teachers can understand how to better cater to English learners and help them do better in school.

Research Method

I began my research using ERIC to find scholarly articles. I looked for professional sources that were recent. Then I looked for statistics on ELL students to help me understand my population. Then I searched for additional articles and relevant topics (such as the digital divide) to support my findings. These additional sources helped me conclude that my original sources were accurate because they had similar ideas and information. Additionally, I always looked for information from credible sources, preferrably from a .org or .gov domain, or other reputable news source.

Reflection

This assignment exposed me to the challenges of making my own website while showing me a unique assessment style. I learned that creating a website takes time, but when I work hard, it can look very professional and is a work I can be proud of accomplishing. The more I worked with my website, the easier it was, and the more I felt I new what I was doing and understood how to fix things I did not like. Based on this assignment, I would consider creating another website again, but I may start with one with a blank template so that I can add things in as I want them and not have to delete and start over. Making a website may not be my first choice in the future to display information, but it was an important learning experience for me as I become a professional and a teacher in the 21st century.
